Flat price vs per-employee pricing
Most payroll software in India either charges for every employee or bundles a fixed number of employees into the base price, so you pay for seats you don’t use. For example, extra employees cost ₹40 a month each on Zoho Payroll Standard, ₹45–85 on greytHR (whose plans include 50 employees in the base price) and ₹150 on RazorpayX Payroll, according to their pricing pages checked in September 2026.

Is it really free?
Yes. HivePayroll is free for up to 10 employees, with no time limit and no credit card. Free includes payroll with PF, ESI, PT, LWF and TDS, payslips and Form 16, leave, the employee self-service app, loans, expenses and reimbursements, flexible benefits, letters, salary revisions and statutory reports.
What’s the difference between Free and paid?
Paid plans add phone check-in with selfie and location, biometric machine integration, shifts and shift rotation, and attendance corrections (regularisation). Everything else is in Free. On Free you mark attendance yourself, with everyone present unless you record leave or absence, or upload it from Excel.
What happens when I have more than 10 employees?
Free covers up to 10 active employees. When you add an 11th, you get 15 days to choose a paid plan, and nothing stops working in that time.
How is the paid price worked out?
By team size, and every paid plan includes every feature: ₹6,000 a year for up to 10 employees, ₹12,000 for 11–25, ₹18,000 for 26–50 and ₹30,000 for 51–100. Above 100 it’s ₹30,000 a year plus ₹25 per extra employee per month.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Monthly billing costs about 20% more over a year: ₹600, ₹1,200, ₹1,800 or ₹3,000 a month for the four bands.
What counts as an employee?
Active employees on your payroll count towards your plan.
Is GST extra?
Yes. Prices exclude GST, which is added at 18%. A GST tax invoice is issued when payment is received.
Do you charge for setup or data migration?
No. There’s no setup fee and no charge for moving your employee and salary data into HivePayroll.
How much does payroll software cost in India?
Prices vary widely. Some vendors are free for very small teams, others charge ₹40–150 per employee a month, and enterprise HR suites are quoted on request. HivePayroll is free for up to 10 employees, then ₹500 to ₹2,500 a month billed yearly for up to 100 employees, excluding GST.
What does HivePayroll cost per employee?
It depends on where you are in your band: ₹50 per employee at 10 employees, ₹40 at 25, ₹30 at 50 and ₹25 at 100, on yearly billing. Above 100 employees it is ₹30,000 a year plus ₹25 per extra employee a month.
