Yes, you can define your own number range for the employees setup. Follow the path Master Configuration -> Sequence Number to open following the settings.
Click on New to add a new number range or Edit to change the existing number range. This brings you to following page:

has two options, Employee, available to create number range for - Prefix: If you need alphanumeric number range, you can use Prefix
section - Next Available Number: If you want to start employee numbers to start from a specific number, maintain the number in Next Available Number
Section Once you start using HivePayroll to process your organization’s payroll, the next available number will show in this section - Minimum Characters Allowed: You can define the minimum number of characters for the number range in this section
